Omg - congratulations for saying how it really is - pity your fellow americans cannot see the wood for the trees. They appear not to realise that the constitution [ which, from memory begins WE the people NOT you the people], was a copy of the Magna Carta with 18th century English and French philisophies added. Liberty, equality and fraternity. . . the most Socialist of ideals in 2 constitutions before Marx was even born !! If america is not the most racist nation on the planet - then the pope is not catholic. The fact you have to be a multi millionaire to even canvas for the presidency is maintaining the class system in the USA. Keep telling us how it is, I for one appreciate your comments.

I agree with everything John stated, except for the fact that I believe character is indeed an issue to focus on when discussing the appointment of a judge who intends to preside over any court. Whilst factoring an individual's character when nominating them to a bench position should be of a major consideration, it should not be an only consideration. Ms. Sotomayor has a long list of questionable issues that should be cause for alarm to those who support and defend the language of the U.S. Constitution, without ever having to address her numerous character flaws.

As for accusing the Founding Fathers of being 'RACIST, SEXIST, and IN FAVOR OF THE WEALTHY CLASS TO RULE'; that argument can be likened to any other argument using the opening statement, "YOU people, ..." The fact remains, it happened to be those Founding Fathers who fought against the "favour of the wealthy class to rule", ensuring you not only have the freedom to make such a baseless accusation against them but also guaranteed you have the Constitutional 1st Amendment Right to publicly express such a baseless accusation. Otherwise, you would certainly be a subject to a "wealthy class monarch".

As for the United States not being "fair", in your perceived opinion, regarding "race, gender, or status", there are many nations around the globe from which to chose residency. Having lived in a few of the "wealthier, more democratic" ones, I assure you, none have been given the freedoms and protections you obviously take for granted, which are guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and its Bill of Rights. If a "greater; more just" nation did exist, I am sure you would have already expatriated to that location, instead of residing in the United States and complaining about its potential discrepancies which have yet to apply to you. Correct?

The media is not focusing on Sotomayor's associations. She is all over the map on her decissions, some mundane, some controversal, so her record is sketchy. I agree that focusing on character for a judge is not the right approach. I do not agree with the whole minority empathy argument being proped up by the Obama administration. The minority organization she has supported and spoken for has some elements that are anti-American, seperatist, racist, and confrontational, it is this that worries me about her, her complicit silent approval of their actions because they share a harritage. Would this be any different then Clarence Thomas quietly supporting the Black Panthers or the Nation of Islam, which he did not do, or any different then a white man working on the fringe of a white supremacy group? She is not the smartest, most qualified, or most political of candidates, her nomination is strictly political and she is replacing a liberal justice so the leaning of the court will not change that much.

As long as she can apply rational interpretations of the Constitution against laws and make rulings based on the facts and evidance presented to her then I have no problem. If she is to push an agenda, legislate from the bench, or show favortism to cases she has empathy toward then this will not work out for justice or America's best interest.
