And, this is the last straw.

Baby Justice's mother had gone to the local Albuquerque Police 2 hours before the murder and tried to turn herself in for an outstanding warrant. Our wonderful police couldn't find the warrant, so they refused to arrest her. (Another version has surfaced that the police did find the warrant but chose not to enforce it.) Nevertheless, the mother told the police that she had been thrown out of her mother's home and the "party house" and that she and her son had no place to go. The police gave her the phone number and location of a women's abuse foundation home that might be able take them in, but didn't bother to ask if she had transportation to get there. When she begged the police to help her, they told her they couldn't help every homeless person who dropped in. Just another example of our wonderful Albuquerque Police Department.

Forgive my ignorance, aren't police susposed to take an oath to "pretect and serve"? Now I understand the police are under staffed, funded, paid, etc. and can't be a free taxi or housing facility but come on, when an obviously strung out person is on your door begging to be locked up what excuse can you use to ignore that person, especially with a warrant situation. There are many many questions coming out on this case...
Why didn't the police contact child services? Why is there computer system so messed up they can't find a warrant, also why then do they take your driver's license back to their car to check the same system that could not find this warrant? Was her visit close to shift change? Where are the logs, police must log their contacts with the public, so who talked to her at what time. Did the police shadow her to see if she would commit a crime, after admitting to criminal activities and being dismissed? Did the police call the women's shelter to see if they had space and if they could pick this woman up? Did the police inquire about the whereabouts of her kid? Of course everything is obvious in hindsight, but there are too many missed oppertunities and failures for protection services that police should have done to prevent such an occurance. The DA needs to look at all failures and not try to wrap this up in a nice neat little package so we all forget in 3 to 6 months. Sure the woman committed the act and needs to pay, but she was asking for help and all those who failed to prevent this shoulder some responsibility and need to be identified as such and be held accountable for their actions as well.

New Mexico operates under rules that are for but a few. An outsider is an outsider and to expect help .. ha. Unless you know somebody or grew up there help is non existant. It took me a number of years to figure that out. To die in New Mexico is moot. There are numerous sites out on the mesas to stuff............ Then consider the nominee for the Supreme court. Her attitude is that of the old school new mexican.... very prejudicial.
