7月31日 Newspaper Headlines Bill Richardson, New Mexico's Governer and U.S. President want-to-be, is already choosing his cabinet. Yes, that was this past Sunday's Albuquerque Journal headline. He's picking his cabinet alright, all of his New Mexico Latino buddies who will not do anything for New Mexico unless you pay them "huge bribes." Yes sir, I can see them fitting into the Washington DC scene quite well.
Senators Ted Stevens and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska have been joined by Alaska's one House of Representatives member, Don Young, as the latest DC politicians to be investigated. When I lived in Alaska from 1980 to 1984, Ted Stevens was the first person residents went to when they needed the government's help. He was always there to help his constituents. But, when I returned to Alaska in 1994, Ted Stevens had joined the ranks of DC old timers who no longer had time for the Alaskan voters who put him in the Senate and have kept him there for so many years. He had acquired that "air of indistructability." Will Alaskans change the name of their largest, international airport if Ted Stevens is found guilty of taking brides?
And, what is up with the company who won the contract to build the U.S./Mexico wall to separate the U.S. from Mexico? They have been fined $5 million for employing illegal Mexican immigrants to actual build the wall. I figured that would be the way it went.
Cock fighting has always been legal in the state of New Mexico until our governer joined the presidental race. Richardson suddenly found some small sense of morals and signed a bill to make cock fighting illegal; however, turns a blind eye to enforcing the law. What does this have to do with anything? Well--I find cruelty to animals as a really low behavior for any human being. So, my opinion of Michael Vick, accused dog fight promoter and dog abuser (killer) is way low. And, now that one of is co-defendents in the case has copt a plea deal by pleading guilty, well--Michael Vick, you should just plead guilty and let the courts decide which punishment that you gave those dogs is right for you. 7月26日 Trade With ChinaThe last thing I wanted to write about was the article on trade with China. Since the beginning of the year, we have been warned about one Chinese product after another that has some kind of poisonous chemical in it.
Now our government has stopped importing some items and in return China has stopped importing meats from the US. It's the old game of tit for tat. The article in the paper stated that large corporations in China bribe government officials at the local levels to turn their heads concerning bad products. They also bribe judges to dismiss Chinese law suits against Chinese corporations concerning bad products.
In other words it's all about the dollar in China just as it is in America. China is fast becoming the biggest trade economy in the world. At the cost of poisoning humans and animals. And, the US government stopping imports on certain items, for a short period of time, is not going to make corporations in China change their ways.
For years I have not bought Chinese products unless it is something that I absolutely had to have and no one else makes it. I do not believe in supporting a Communist country for any reason. So, I ususally pay more money for items, but I have peace of mind.
So listen up America!!! The only way to change China's manufacturing habits is to stop buying their junk. When no one buys from them anymore, they'll change or go broke. Three Star Retired General Might Loose Star Because of Pat Tillman IncidentNow I don't know much about Pat Tillman's football record, but I've heard enough about his "friendly fire" death. In a war, any war, friendly fire deaths occur. It's just a fact of war. But, when someone as big at Pat Tillman stands up waving something and yelling that he's an American--why did he get shot?
This incident just doesn't make sense to me. And, then everyone lies to cover up what happened, they call him a hero, pin a medal on his dead chest? What the heck is going on here?
Pat Tillman and thousands of other US soldiers shouldn't have been in Afghanistan or Iraq. Thousands of US soldiers shouldn't be dying in foreign countries that do not want American military there nor do they care if we are fighting and dying for them. But I ask you, what good is it going to do to take a star away from a 3-star retired general? He'll really not miss the decrease in his retirement check and it won't bring Pat Tillman back from the dead.
We need to straighten out this whole war mess and bring these soldiers home. That is the only way to stop "friendly fire" deaths. New Mexico, a Great Place to Raise Kids?I was reading the Albuquerque Journal while eating my chicken taco salad for lunch today. (By the way, the Mexican C(some Mexican name) restaurant outside the Gibson Gate has really great food.) When I stumbled across some articles I'm going to blog about.
The first was entitled, "Fewer New Mexico Children Living in Poverty." The contents of this article revolved around the results of a survey of all 50 U.S. states. The article stated that the higher the state scored (placed) on the survey (which would be 50, because we have 50 states) the worse the state was. Okay let's make sure I understand the results of the survey!
If the state placed 50th in the survey, then that state would be the worst state of all the 50 U.S. states. Okay, I got it!!!!
Now the article lists the categories covered in the survey and gave only the scores for New Mexico (what about the other 49 states?).
Children Living in Poverty 47th
Children Living With One Parent 47th
Teen's Having Babies 48th
Child Death Rate 41st
Dropout Rate 47th
Now my question is this: From these figures, how does one deduce that New Mexico children are doing better? Better than what? The 2 or 3 states who did worse on the survey? They sure aren't doing better than 1-47 other states.
Now I can tell you why New Mexican children are not doing better and I didn't take a survey. High rate of drug use High rate of alcohol use High rate of gang activity Probably one of the highest rates of illegal immigrants in the country with one of the lowest number of legal residents paying for their free hand-outs
7月19日 Bugsy the ChihuahuaBugsy the 4 month old Chihuahua from Escambia, Florida was drug behind his owner's SUV until the hair and skin were worn off on his legs, paws, and underbelly, around July 6th. His owner, Pompeyo Lopez Morales, was followed by concerned citizens and made to pull off the highway. When confronted, Mr. Morales, stated that he wouldn't take the puppy to the veternarian, so the concerned citizens took the dog to the Animal Humane Society.
When arrested by Escambia police, Mr. Morales' story changed several times. At first he stated that he was angry about something and took it out on the puppy. His story to police was that he had taken the puppy to work with him, tied the dog to the mirror of the SUV, and after work Mr. Morales forgot the puppy was tied to the SUV and drug the puppy for quite a ways before the concerned citizens intervened. By the time Mr. Morales appeared before the judge, his story had changed to--I have two other Chihuahuas at home and we miss Bugsy terribly.
I happened upon the CNN story of Bugsy in an online video showing the puppy lying on the veternarian's table bleeding from the legs and underbelly. Too bad it wasn't Mr. Morales lying on that table instead. The Animal Humane Society in Escambia was asking for someone to step forward and adopt Bugsy so that his medical care would be covered.
I contacted Candace Stordahl, head of the Escambia Animal Humane Department to ask about Bugsy. She informed me that Bugsy was doing better, eating on his own and getting more animated; however, the judge had placed a judicial hold on Bugsy pending return to his owner, Mr. Morales. I couldn't believe that they were returning Bugsy to the man who didn't care if he dragged the puppy down the public highway.
Now, in my opinion Mr. Morales is an animal abusing S.O.B who should be drug a few miles behind a vehicle to see how he likes it. But, the judge that would return a puppy to this creep is just as bad. Ya know, it has been proven that people who hurt defenseless animals have mental problems and shouldn't be trusted with animals or human beings. I just feel sorry for Bugsy who is the real victim in this story. Where are Bugsy's rights? Maybe he doesn't want to go anywhere with Mr. Morales. This is just plain crap. Illegal Aliens Attend UNM FreeAn article in the Albuquerque Journal today announced that our wonderful Governer (and Presidential candidate) is allowing illegal aliens to attend the University of New Mexico (UNM) for free.
What about all the US citizens who have to work to pay their way through college, obtain student loans, or scholarships? Why aren't New Mexico residents allowed to attend UNM free?
Why are illegal aliens given everything free in New Mexico? If we vote for Bill Richardson for president or even vice president, are all illegal immigrants going to get free college educations while US citizens and legal immigrants pay for it. I didn't like President Johnson for reasons to numerous to list here, but mostly for keeping us in the Vietnam War as long as he did. But, Mrs. Johnson was a real lady in the Washington DC circuit and she worked hard for the causes she supported. Independence Day was first celebrated on July 8, 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was read to the public. By the 1880's, the Fourth of July had become the most significant patriotic occasion in the United States. Congress declared the day a federal legal holiday in 1941.
Let us stop today and take a good hard look at our government. Our government has forgotten the first paragraph of this blog and we, the People, need to alter the course of those who govern in Washington DC. |
