I Thought We Were All Americans

The American Revolution was fought to overcome British oppression and guarantee freedom for settlers of a new country.  Thus the 13 original colonies were founded by peoples who immigrated from many different countries, who came to this land to follow their dreams and to be free.

Although immigrants had their neighborhoods, their sections of towns and cities where they lived with immigrants of similar nationalities, when they came together--they were all Americans.

My parents' families came from Germany and Sicily to settle in Boston, MA and Bradford, PA.  They weren't poor, dirt farmers, nor were they the wealthy, upper crust.  In their homes they carried on some of the traditions of their European ancestors, but they worked hard at assimilating in their adopted country.  Although they spoke fluent German and Sicilian, only English was spoken at home and in public.  They were proud to be Americans, proud to work hard and be free.

Somewhere along our country's historical line, Americans have lost that sense of American pride.  Somewhere in our past, we have become two-word Americans.  Now we are Hispanic Americans, African Americans, Chinese Americans, Korean Americans; etc., etc.  Now we have our individual months for remembering our ethinic heritages.  Now when some big news story breaks, the media makes sure the public (you and I) know what ethnic group has caused chaos among us.

Let's look at the Virginia Tech shootings.  The shooter was of Korean decent and this fact was repeated over and over on TV.  Would it have made any difference in the event, or the media coverage of the event, if the shooter was discribed as an American student at Virginia Tech?  I think not.

By announcing to the world that the shooter was of Korean ethnicity, the media only served to hurt the feelings of all Americans of Korean decent.  The company that I work for is owned and operated by a man of Korean decent and when the Virginia Tech shootings occurred, he sent an e-mail to all his employees informing us of his feelings.  Here is a man who contributes to the economy of America by creating a profitable business and jobs for Americans, who has been made to feel that he needs to apologize for the actions of another American of Korean decent because that person committed a terrible act.  Mr. Min you have nothing to apologize for.

Why have we alienated each other by separating Americans into ethnic groups?

Once, in the past while working for the Federal Government, I had the opportunity to attend an African American Month luncheon that featured retired Air Force General "Fig" Newton as its guest speaker.  General Newton was an eloquent, black speaker and his theme was, We Are All Americans.  I remember his statement that we need to move past the concept that we have an ethnic adjective in front of our American noun.  General Newton stated that America needed to be able and proud to designate its citizens as Americans.  Only then could we recover the greatness of our founding fathers.   These were truely words of wisdom from a great American.

I challenge all American citizens to move forward to a more united, truely united America.  Let's all be Americans again, standing together in all situations and facing a better tomorrow for "America--Land of the Free and Home of the Brave."

Credit Card Fraud

This is the fourth time a credit card thief has stolen my AT&T Universal Mastercard credit information and used it to charge stuff.  I have other credit cards and no one has ever stolen my information and charged against them.  I have come to the conclusion that:

1.  AT&T Universal Card has someone working for them that gives out credit card numbers
2.  Newport News Clothing company has someone working for them that is stealing credit information or
3.  Spiegel has someone working for them that is stealing credit information

Why do I think it is one of the above?

Because, my daughter gave me a gift card from Spiegels for my birthday and I used it to purchase some clothes online from Newport News.  Newport News is a branch of Spiegel.  The last three times someone stole my credit information I had purchased clothing online from Spiegels and Newport News and shortly afterward someone else was charging on my card.  I only use two cards online and that is American Express (I never have problems with American Express) and AT&T Universal.

What pisses me off is: 1.  The person using my card had the correct card number but the incorrect expiraton date.  But AT&T let the charges go though anyway. 2.  I found out because a shoe company in Wisconsin called me and ask which address I wanted some stuff sent (my address or someone in Florida on Garcia Street).  3.  When I called AT&T they said they had more charges pending, I told them not to put them through because I wasn't charging the stuff, and they put them through anyway.

Why am I blogging about this?  To warn folks out there that AT&T Universal Mastercard is a bad company to do business with and to warn folks that Spiegel and Newports News companies have a credit information leak.

Virginia Tech

I'd Like to Offer
my
Condolences
to the families
of the students
injuried and killed
at Virginia Tech Campus

I don't understand the drive for a person with problems, who doesn't want to seek help, to kill innocent people.  If they want to kill themselves, I hate to see that happen also, but that is their choice and path in life.  Don't take other souls, who in most cases do not even know the killer, with them.

The Imus Show

Well, they fired Imus from his TV and radio shows.  So, now Sharpton and Jackson are dictating who gets to say what on radio and TV.  These two men of God who are suppose to preach Christian values, forgive and forget, turn the other cheek, etc., are a wonderful example to Americans of any race or color.  Guess they'll be censoring our blogs next.

Well, before they do, I have some things to say--I think that Sharpton, Jackson, and the American media have finally gone too far.  WHAT HAPPENED TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH?

By God, I want some folks thrown off radio, TV, and maybe we should even thrown them out of the country.  Yes sir, I want Eddie Murphy taken care of for one.  I want all the recordings of Richard Prior thrown out, I want his estate to pay for the fact that he got on TV and in movies and said the F and the N words repeatedly (same goes for Murphy).  I want money, BIG money because when I listened to Murphy and Prior I was offended by the use of the F and the N word, and I was scarred for life because they discussed their genitals and the genitals of all African American men and for that matter all African men.  And, I was scarred for life by all the MTV videos performed by Michael Jackson because he repeatedly grabbed his genital area and danced around with other men and some women of the white and black races.  I may never be normal again because of Janet Jackson exposing (on purpose or by accident) her breast on the Super Bowl half-time show.  How could she?  How could she show a black breast on TV--my God I'm so offended.

And, while we're at it, I demand that all the people, men and women by now, who made fun of the fact that my father was from Sicily when I was growing up in German Pennsylvania.  I want all of those people hunted down and flogged for making racial remarks about my Italian heritage.  I not only want them flogged in public, I want them all fired from their jobs--if they are retired by now--I want them hired by someone and then fired.  I want revenge--I want restitution for my being embarassed as a child.  I will never be the same, or normal, or proud of my Italian heritage because of those terrible people.

What a sad day when we as Americans have to fire a person because they made one remark that was out of line about a girls' basketball team because they are African Americans.  What a sad day when we let Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson censor what we can and can not hear.  What a sad day when the media makes choices for us about what we can see and hear.  It's not only a sad day, it down right stinks!!!!!

The Imus Remarks

It looks like Imus stuck his foot in his mouth.  I never watch the Imus show or perhaps I should say, I never listen to the Imus show.  But, then I do not listen to Rush Limbaugh much, nor Howard Stern.  I figure if ya listen to these shows, then you must like what you hear or you'd turn them off.

I'd like to comment on his remark though....Why is it that African Americans can call themselves and other African Americans the "N" word, on TV, at Comedy Clubs, on HBO specials (and I'm not going to name names here, they know who they are), and even on street and in restaurants---but God forbid if a white person calls them by the "N" word.  Why if one of us "white crackers" was to call them by the "N" word, they want us hung, they want us fired from our jobs, they want a public apology.  Reminds me of some religious organization that I mention in my blogs.  Yes sir, don't you "white crackers" use that "N" word, it's reserved for African American use only.

And, then there's Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton standing in the wings like vultures, just waiting for someone, anyone, to say something, anything, so that they can pounce on it and use it for furthering their political ambitions.   They don't care about African Americans, they only care about getting their mugs on TV, in the news, on CNN.

I think it's about time that all Americans, black and white, yellow, or green, GET OVER IT!!!  Get on with life and forget about who makes a remark about who.  If ya don't like what Imus says, then don't listen to him.  Turn your radio off or to another station.  Life is just too short for all this crying and pointing fingers.

Lesson#1 for Young Analysts

In the office where I work, whenever we run out of work, we sit around and analyze current events.  I'm amazed at the lack of knowledge about the Middle East that young analysts have.  So, this blog is Lession #1 for young analysts.

The Middle East is comprised of three main branches of religion:  Jewish, Christian, and Muslim.  The oldest religion being Jewish, then Christian, and then Muslim.  The Jewish religion believes in the one true God, the Bible gives him several different names, they acknowledge that Christ existed but do not recognize him as the promised savior.  Christians believe in the same one true God but they believe that Christ was sent by God to deliver us from our sins and that Christ died so that sinners could receive everlasting life.  Muslims believe in One God, Allah; they acknowledge that Christ lived but they recognize Muhammad as the savior, the greatest prophet.

The God of the Jews and the God of the Muslims is an unforgiving God.  The God who believed in "an eye for an eye," a God who demanded that we worship him and obey all of his laws or he would release plagues upon tribes, wipe out the enemies of his peoples, flood the earth for 40 days and 40 nights, kill babies to make a point, demand sacrifices, part the Red Sea and then drown an army, in fact, he could well be called a self-centered egotist.  Christians seem to have lost sight of this God and settled upon his son Jesus Christ's teachings.  Christ was the teacher of "turn the other cheek," "love everyone like your brother," "help the poor," "give unto others," "forgive those who trespass against you."

These religious ideologies are at war in the Middle East.  Each faction (Jewish, Muslim, and Christian) believes they are right and are willing to kill to not only prove their ideology, but to force their ideology upon everyone else.  We are basically fighting the crusades again, a modern religious crusade.

Iran

NOW WE KNOW
THE REST OF THE STORY!
(play on Paul Harvey's words)

The Iranians want us to release Iranian prisoners taken in Iraq.  The Iranians pull a hostage situation with British soldiers and sailers and they expect us to bail out our allies.  Well, it will be interesting to see how this goes.  Since the Italians made a trade with the insurgents awhile back, are we going to break our policy of not dealing with terrorists too?  I think it would be a big mistake.

I guess if Iran doesn't want to look like out-and-out terrorists by asking for nukes, they'll do the next best thing and ask for return of terrorists to further their cause.  In one door and out the other.  Just keep digging the hole deeper and deeper.  Until there is no way out and it caves in on your head.

Iran and the UK hostages

Doesn't this situation sound familiar?  Iran wanted something to distract the world from its nuclear program and what better way than taking hostages, again.  Sure these folks confessed, they are prisoners of a nation that doesn't care what they do to others.  Were they in Iranian waters?  I doubt it.  The same man that was involved in taking the American hostages, the man that is now in charge of parts of the Iranian government, is probably having a good laugh over the fact that it looks like he's going to get away with it again.

The British navy is almost nonexistant and as our closest ally, they were probably basing some of their earlier threats on the US backing.  Unfortunately, the US has the reputation of being a whimp.   We're not going to use the only way we have of extricating ourselves from the Middle East, because if we do, we unleash a barrage of atomic energy this world has ever known.  So, lets kiss their butts and give them whatever they want.

By the way, just what is it they want?????

What's Up With the Poisonings

What is it with all the contaminated eatables lately?  One of the easiest methods of terrorism in the US is to slip germs into our food and water chain.  Now every time I turn on the news they are talking about contaminated baby food, cat food, dog food; and didn't this all start with spinach?  I'm not suggesting anything; but, it is starting to make me wonder about our food and water chain.  Just something to think about.
