Barack Obama

To win the election a candidate must win 270 electoral college votes.  Hillary Clinton, to date, has won 232.

In my professional opinion, the Electoral College, though established by the U.S. Constitution, is an outdated entity in need of abolishing.  It was established because in 1776 the communication system and the written vote drastically limited voting tabulating and result announcing.  In the days of this nation's conception, the Electorial College was the best means of selecting our leaders; however, in modern times with electronic vote tabulation and media instantaneous result announcements, the Electorial College should be replaced by the popular vote.  The direct vote of the American people.  Afterall, our government was founded of the people, by the people, and for the people.  And, so it shall be.

With this concept in mind, and if the people are truely ready and wanting of change, why are we voting for Hillary Clinton?  Why are we voting to establish a Bush/Clinton dynasty?  Are we so short of eligible candidates that we elect and re-elect the Bush/Clinton families and hope that Chelsea or Jeb will be available in 2012 or 2016?  And, then perhaps one of the Bush twins in 2020 or 2024?

My fellow bloggers--I want change.  I feel we need change now.  I've had enough of the Bush dynasty method of liberation without military tactical and domestic planning.  I'm tired of the Clinton dynasty that gave most of our nation's nuclear and military secrets to our enemies so that we'd all be equal (enabling them to feed that knowledge to terrorists who would use it against us).  I can't support John McCain because frankly he is of the same Vietnam mindset as I am and I feel we need a younger, fresher mindset.

I have taken the time to read and study each candidate's platform, plans to fix America's problems, and their track records in office.  After my research and analysis, I have decided to support Barack Obama for President of the United States.

A Tribute to Margaret Truman Daniels

REST IN PEACE
MARGARET TRUMAN DANIELS

This past Tuesday, January 29, 2008, Margaret Truman Daniels, the only child of President and Mrs. Harry Truman, died at the age of 83.  I'm blogging to salute Ms. Daniels for the following reasons:

She was a fellow history degree holder.
She didn't let the fact that she was a president's daughter get in the way of what she wanted to do for a career.
She lead her life on her own terms, with dignity.
She honored her father and mother during their lifetimes, as we are all instructed to do.
Her life as a president's daughter was the social life of "spotlight," but she lived it with grace.
As a fellow Acquarian, she served the public, the people her father served, and died knowing they both served with honor.

If you pass this way again, Margaret Truman Daniels, may your path be free of obstacles and your life be unencumbered.

The Primaries

I was disappointed to see that most of the Republicans are dropping out of the race.  I was hoping for a much better race.  I've decided not to vote for the Republican candidate.  Bill Clinton is finally showing his true colors with his constant outbursts.  I have to agree with Ted Kennedy, for once, that Bill needs to shut his big mouth because he's only hurting his wife's campaign.  I'm looking forward to the elections in February.

By the way, this coming Saturday is my birthday and I'm going to Taos to celebrate.  I'll be rested and ready for the New Mexico primary.  And, I've already received my birthday present from the most unexpected person, watch for future blogs.

The Nevada and South Carolina Primaries

The Nevada and South Carolina primaries surprised me.  I thought South Carolina would vote for Huckabee because of the South Baptist population of that state and I thought Nevada would go for McCain.  The democratic split in Nevada was interesting, but not a real surprise.  But, I'm really glad to see that Americans are getting out in record numbers to vote.  I'm looking forward to the February primaries.

The Michigan Primary

The Michigan primary went about as I expected.  Romney won for the Republicans and Clinton was the only democrat on the ticket.  I predicted that each candidate would take different states, showing that people want change, but are not sure which person can give them that change.

That's good, folks.  Get out there in record numbers and vote for the person you want, not the person that the media predicts will win.  On to the next state.

The President's MIddle East Visit

Today's blog is about President Bush's Middle East visit.  Is this trip better late than never or just a waste of time?
Starting an 8-day trip on January 9th, he visited Israel and the West Bank, Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.  Here was the perfect time to reassure Arab leaders that they can count on the U.S. to be an ally for peace and press them for greater cooperation in combatting Iran and Islamic radicals.  Is that what he did? Well----his first 3 days, President Bush spent in Israel and the West Bank pressuring Israelis to achieve his vision of "two states living side by side in peace."  His vision is not necessarily their vision.  Palestine wants the quickest way to statehood and Israel seeks guarantees that a Palestinian state will not become a terrorist sanctuary (gee, I thought they already were).
It seems Israelis love President Bush.   They told him that when his term as U.S. President is over, he can come to Israel and take over as Israeli Prime Minister.  Guess he's found himself a new job.  What I really don't understand is why they feel this way.  Here is a man, President Bush, who is trying to force Israel to live with known terrorists as neighbors.  I mean, it's like sending all the terrorists to live in New Mexico and then telling Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Oklahoma and Mexico to be happy with it.  Do you think Americans would grin and bare that?
Then President Bush visited Saudi Arabia where he told the oil ministers to increase the output of oil to help U.S. economy.  His objective is to lower oil prices, improving the spending of Americans; thus, improving U.S. economy.  However, as soon as he left the room, the Saudi oil minister said they'd produce more oil when conditions warranted it, meaning not now.  There's ally cooperation for ya.  Middle East countries know they control world oil and U.S. power (real or imagined) doesn't faze them.  They are more afraid of Russia, China, and Iran.
My opinion on Saudi Arabia is that their people are responsible for 9/11, we should have invaded them.  Saudis do not do manual labor and they do not fight wars, they hire people from other countries to do it for them; and they treat these folks like crap while they do it.  Why are we invading Afghanistan and Iraq for something Saudi Arabia is responsible for?
In Riyadh the President attended a roundtable with young Saudi entrepreneurs who had attended U.S. schools.  This entrepreneurs were deeply fustrated about the "unnecessary" travel barriers.  In other words, they are having problems getting U.S. student visas.  Thank the Gods, something is working properly.
On January 14th, our President had dinner in the desert of Abu Dhabi.  The United Arab Emirates Minister of Foreign Affairs showed him falcons that they raise there.  It is said that these falcons can see for 3-4 miles.  I hope Bush brought some back to DC; we need them to watch for terrorists.
Then on to Dubai, where he paused for a photo with 10 dancers about 8-years old.  He met with young Arab Leaders who develop initiatives throughout the region.  I hope they make a plan for all the people who live in the cardboard shacks in the shadows of modern skyscrappers built by their multi-billionaire sheik.
On to Egypt, where President Hosni Mubarak welcomed Bush without ceremony as a sign of cooling ties between our countries.  Why cooling?  Well--the U.S. thinks Egypt should do more to secure its border with the Gaza Strip now run by the terrorist group, Hamas.  Shouldn't we worry more about the U.S. not securing its border with Mexico?  I mean, if we can't secure our border, why critisize Egypt?
Throughout his Middle East visit, President Bush talked about Iran and its radical leaders.  He repeatedly ask for Arbs to join together to push for governmental change, to condemn Iranian interferrance in the region, and to pressure Iran to leave Israel alone.  Most of this probably fell on deaf ears.  But, President Bush did tell Iranian citizens to rise up and fight for democracy.  It's a known fact that Iranian citizens have had enough of their Ayatollas and that they are waiting for U.S. backing.  I hope that now the Iranians will push their leaders for freedoms and reforms.  And, I hope the U.S. will back them in their struggle.  Let us hope this is not a repeat of Bush senior's encouraging of Iraqis to rise up against Hussein after Gulf War I, and when they did, he abandoned them to the mercy of the Republican Guard.
President Bush, it's too late to save your lagacy or to build a lasting one; but, it's not too late to build a better tomorrow and to pass peace on to future generations.

Take your tea and shove it!

It's time for a history lesson on taxation without representation.  The history of the Boston Tea Party--Victory in the French and Indian War was costly for the British. At the war's conclusion in 1763, British King George III and his government looked to taxing the American colonies as a way of recouping their war costs. They were also looking for ways to reestablish control over the colonial governments that had become increasingly independent while the Crown was distracted by the war. Royal ineptitude compounded the problem. A series of actions including the Stamp Act (1765), the Townsend Acts (1767) and the Boston Massacre (1770) agitated the colonists, straining relations with the mother country. But it was the Crown's attempt to tax tea that spurred the colonists to action and laid the groundwork for the American Revolution.

The colonies refused to pay the levies required by the Townsend Acts claiming they had no obligation to pay taxes imposed by a Parliament in which they had no representation. In response, Parliament retracted the taxes with the exception of a duty on tea--a demonstration of Parliament's ability and right to tax the colonies. In May of 1773 Parliament concocted a clever plan. They gave the struggling East India Company a monopoly on the importation of tea to America. Additionally, Parliament reduced the duty the colonies would have to pay for the imported tea. The Americans would now get their tea at a cheaper price than ever before. However, if the colonies paid the duty tax on the imported tea they would be acknowledging Parliament's right to tax them.

Tea was a staple of colonial life - it was assumed that the colonists would rather pay the tax than deny themselves the pleasure of a cup of tea.  However, the colonists were not fooled by Parliament's ploy. When the East India Company sent shipments of tea to Philadelphia and New York the ships were not allowed to land. In Charleston the tea-laden ships were permitted to dock but their cargo was consigned to a warehouse where it remained for three years until it was sold by patriots in order to help finance the revolution.

In Boston, the arrival of three tea ships ignited a furious reaction. The crisis came to a head on December 16, 1773 when as many as 7,000 agitated locals milled about the wharf where the ships were docked. A mass meeting at the Old South Meeting House that morning resolved that the tea ships should leave the harbor without payment of any duty. A committee was selected to take this message to the Customs House to force release of the ships out of the harbor. The Collector of Customs refused to allow the ships to leave without payment of the duty. Stalemate. The committee reported back to the mass meeting and a howl erupted from the meeting hall. It was now early evening and a group of about 200 men disguised as Indians assembled on a near-by hill. Whopping war chants, the crowd marched two-by-two to the wharf, descended upon the three ships and dumped their offending cargos of tea into the harbor waters.
Most colonists applauded the action while the reaction in London was swift and vehement. In March 1774 Parliament passed the Intolerable Acts which among other measures closed the Port of Boston. The fuse that led directly to the explosion of American independence was lit.

Now, why this history lesson?  Apparently the Rio Rancho city council has forgotten it.  Last week there were two meetings to discuss the Rio Rancho assessment to pave our roads.  This was the first time residents were allowed to voice their views on the $13,575 we were billed for road paving and drainage pipes.  And, the turnout was overwhelming.  To the point that hundreds of residents were turned away because of lack of room.  For 4 hours residents talked before the council about their objections to this assessment.  It's obvious that the council has already made up its mind, they didn't pay any attention to the residents.  In fact, I thought at least two of them were going to fall asleep.

Well, council members you'd better pay attention; Americans wrote their constitution because of taxation without representation.  Albeit, there isn't enough water here in Rio Rancho to constitute a puddle, but the tea is going to flow if we do not get a voice on the assessment.  If you put us all in jail, or take our homes to pay for paving the roads, where the hell will you be then?  No taxpayers, no taxes, no money.  Wake up, you can't keep good Americans down.  Where is that tea, and which way is it to City Hall?

What Government Idiot Thought of That One?

I had a blog in mind for this evening, and then I heard the ultimate comment on talk radio.  Government issued drivers' license with ID chips that every American would have to obtain soon to ensure their identity.  Every state would have to issue the same drivers license with the same government ID chip to all of their driver age residents.  This license would have to be shown to get on planes, trains, and in automobiles; a license as vital to our identity as our social security numbers.  At first I thought, doesn't this sound like a section of the book of Revelations?  Isn't this the part where everyone has to have the mark to participate in society?  But, then I thought, yeah this might be a good idea, no more harrassment at the airport, no more lists of people that have to be detained.

And, then I heard it--everyone over 50 wouldn't need to have this drivers license, because they are not likely to commit acts of terrorism.  What?  What idiot in our government came up with that one?

Now, I'm 57, I've been trained in espionage and counterterrorism and--I'm not likely to be a terrorist?  I'm insulted--I think I could be a good terrorist (if I wanted to be).  I just can't believe that anyone would think that age would make one a terrorist, or not.  Okay, that's fine with me, I don't need no stinking license to make me a safe citizen, you all can just keep mine--or give it to Osama--afterall he's younger than 50--isn't he?

Israel's Intelligence Service

My blog on the Iranian/US ship confrontation referred to the Israeli Intelligence Service and some of you folks object to the US/Israel relationship.  I know that Grimm Reality and I have agreed to disagree on the subject of Israel; however, the Israeli Intelligence Service is one of the best in the world.  If I had to rely on one source for my analyses, it would be Israel.  They are good, reliable, and they do not mess around with their enemies.

Bill Richardson Out of the Race?

Bill Richardson has announced that he is out of the Presidential race.  Took about 2 minutes on today's news.  Dear Bill, you never were in the race.  Now, he says that he is going to focus on our state of New Mexico, and he's going to make sure that everyone in New Mexico has health insurance.  You really have been on the road campaigning for a long time--you've alrealy given all the illegals free health care that the rest of of working New Mexicans have to pay for.  And, if you can't get any doctors to stay in New Mexico, what good would it be to give us all free health care?  Sorry Bill, but you're way out of touch.

Iran Confronts US Navy

We've been studying the Iranians confronting the US Navy at work today.  For a country who is not working on the bomb, not trying to interfer in Iraq, not furnishing arms to our enemies, not at war with us since the Hostage situation, they sure are asking for it.  Each episode with Iran gets worse and deeper in crap.  If they do not have a bomb, and they have the nerve to pick on the US Navy, then something isn't right here.

The Americans statement reads that they were being harrassed and were preparing to fire on the Iranians when they withdrew.  What was the Navy waiting for?  The Iranians harrass our ships, we send them radio warning, they continue, we send a ton howitzer across the ship with the highest ranking flag, they continue, the next howitzer is down their throat.  Guess I'm not like the US Navy, I don't mess around.  Take a look at the news picture of the Iranian ships compared to the US Navy, not much of a fight.

However, I guess the main concern is why the Iranians felt they could harrass our ship and get away with it.  Now, Israel has stated for some time that their intelligence info has the Iranians much farther along getting the nukes than the US intelligence.  I've studies Israel's intell and I have to agree with them.  Plus Iran has the backing of China and Russia.  And, no matter how much Putin stands beside Bush and swears he's in our court, he ISN'T.  Watch out for the next step.  Roasted Iranian war ship anyone?

The Primaries

I have to agree with Johhny Bravo that the media is getting really carried away, predicting winners before any of the vote is counted.  And, the early start of primaries, isn't helping much.  I think that the primaries will go first in one candidates favor and then in another.  Obama and Hillary are just too close to call at the moment.  I haven't chosen my candidate yet; however, I've had nightmares about Hillary being president and Bill being vice president, there's nothing in the Constitution to stop that one.

Whatever the media says, I hope that Americans ignore it and get out there and vote for whoever you want.  Get out in record numbers and show the government that we have an interest in how they are screwing us over and we want a change.

Iowa and New Hampshire

I've been waiting to write this blog, from the Iowa caucas to the New Hampshire primary.  It looks like the American people are getting the message to get out there and vote, vote for change.  Obama won big in Iowa and Hillary is winning big in New Hampshire.  And, that is great!!  But, the biggest victory is that voters are turning out in record numbers to cast their votes.

The important issue here is that Americans want change in their government and they are making their numbers known and supporting their candidates.  Folks were saying that since Obama won in Iowa, Hillary didn't stand a chance, same for Huckabee, McCain and Romney.  I haven't made up my mind who to vote for, just because one candidate wins big in one state, does not mean that Americans shouldn't bother to vote for the candidate that they want, winner or loser.  Good for you, Americans, you get out there and show our government.

My second resolution for 2008 is not to be anyone's enabler anymore.  I'm not taking the blame for things I haven't done, just to protect the creeps in my life.

And, then there was one.

Benazhir Bhutto named her husband to be her successor in her will.  Her husband immediately named her 19 year old son as the successor.  Now there's a brave man for ya.  Her son has stated that he is going to finish college before he starts his work as her successor, and that, my friends is a good choice.

The Rio Rancho street assessment is finished and we all received a certified letter from Wilson Construction.  Now, to begin with we were all told that we were responsible for the part of the road on our property, thus residents with corner lots were to pay more for the road.  The assessment was suppose to include paving, drainage pipes, curbs, and city utilities (in our case, about $6,000-$8,000).  The letters we received stated that the entire project would be approximately $75,000,000.00 and was to be constructed in parcels.  Some parcels would be receiving paved roads, curbs, and drainage and some would receive paving, curbs, drainage, and utilities.  Our parcel would only be receiving asphalt paving and drainage.  However, all of the residents are being billed $13,575.00.  We can pay it in full upfront, get a loan from the city for 20 years at 2 or 3 percent and have a lean against our property until it's paid, or refuse the assessment and have a lean against our property with eventul foreclosure and selling of our property by the city to pay the $13,575.  Now, I ask you, what would you do?

My first New Year's resolution is to get rid of the ingrats in my life.  What are ingrats?  People who are always putting their hand out for more and more, but never giving anything in return.

Happy New Year

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

What's your New Year's resolution?

I usually do not make resolutions
but
this year I've decided to and I'm going to be
printing them on this blog soon.
