Today Russia announced that it had missiles that could penetrate any global shield. It's the same missile that they have had for years--they just re-aligned the warheads. And, just who is paying for this research? I thought that you Russians were so poor you needed global financial aid. Is our financial aid going toward re-building your military and nuclear readiness. What about all those poor, starving Russians? What a bunch of bull!
I went to the Kirtland AFB BX yesterday to purchase some items for my new home and almost fainted when the bathroom rugs I bought actually said made in america. Something is actually still made in America? Guess we haven't sold everything down the Chinese river.
January 26 How about that Google? Setting up a search engine in China. Too bad they are giving in to the Chinese government censuring department. Anything for the almighty dollar(s). Not to worry, Chinese hackers will find a route around that in little time.
Google, not giving in to the American internet snoops, but anything for the Chinese communist department of KTTFTCP "Keep The Truth From The Chinese People". Where do we go from here, guys? January 24 Who Are These Guys?Who are these guys? By that I am referring to hostage takers in Iraq. They take a French hostage and demand that France withdraw all it's troops from Iraq.
Where have you guys been? France didn't support the second Gulf War and they have no troops in Iraq.
If you're going to take a hostage, take one that can be a bargaining chip for you. Not some innocent Frenchman that got in the way.
This war is getting to the point of Wag The Dog. January 23 LobbyingLobbying--Mr. Abramoff has made the headlines. What is Lobbying? Most folks think that it's a group of people who give favors to Congressmen to support their groups or their causes. Well, that's partially true. I have spent some time in Washington DC so I'll give you my opinion.
Lobbying was not established by our Founding Fathers. In fact, I think they would be rather ashamed at this practice. Lobbyists are individuals hired by foreign countries, individual groups and domestic firms to represent their interests. To do this, Lobbyists contact Congress members by grapping them in the halls of Congress or making appointments to talk to them in private.
If a bill is introduced into Congress that may affect foreign interests, corporations, or individuals, unfavorably or favorably; lobbyists are hired to influence the vote on such bills. How do they influence the vote? By, because of lack of a better word, buying the Congress members' votes. Perhaps not by giving the Congress members a bribe directly, but by contributing to their political campaign--or--perhaps by giving trips, ball game tickets, champagne boat trips, etc. You name it--we got it right here.
Mr. Abramoff has been caught giving gifts and campaign money to Congress members to influence their votes on issues his employers find in their interest. He isn't the only person to do this--he is the one that was caught. Will they do anything to him? You can never tell with the courts now adays. What about all the other lobbyists? What about all the Congress members he will name at his trial? If he wants to be honest, he'd probably have to name everyone.
Lobbying is a practice that needs to be stopped. Why? Because Congress members were elected by the American populace to represent them, to vote in favor of issues that are favorable for the populace. They are to represent us--the American people--not corporations, industries, interest groups, and foreign governments. If you are in Washington DC to grab as much booty from lobbyists as you can, then you need to go home.

January 19 Having ProblemsJust a note to let my fellow bloggers know that I am having problems posting to my blog as I am staying with friends now that do not have ADSL. It takes forever to download anything and uploading is twice as slow. I am in the process of purchasing a home where I will have ADSL capability, but closing is not until 27 Jan. Please hang in there and as soon as possible I will be up and running again. January 04 I'M BACK!!!!I'M BACK! I'm not sure if it's good, but I'm back. Having spent the last 3 years in Italy, I couldn't wait to get back to the good old USA. Now I'm beginning to think I should have stayed in Europe.
Well we didn't make it back to Alaska. We are now in New Mexico. The land of the high desert, dust/dirt storms. It's January and not a bit of snow or water of any kind. My sinusis have been either clogged with sand or bleeding from the dryness. Oh yeah, I went to the nearest Walgreens and found unlike Europe where you name the drug and flash the Euro; here you can't even get Drixoral or pseudoephedrine without them writing your life's story in their black book. If I ever stoop to setting up a meth lab they know I have an Alaska driver's license, they have no clue where I'm holding up though.
Next lesson--when you turn 50--the big 5 0--your brain drys up and makes an intelligence dump. Companies can't hire you because you actually understand what IRAs and 401Ks are and you may actually request one. I have a higher security clearance than Bill Clinton had during his presidency, but I had a bank tell me they needed to do a background check on me.
Then there's the guy who offered to sell us a house on 2 acres of prime desert. The house was beautiful inside but needed some fixing up. It had been vacant for awhile. The garage was locked up and the automatic door was broken and needed replaced. He offered $2,500 off the closing costs to repair the door, but then on his disclosure paperwork he states that there are leaking pipes in the garage, house settling problems, rust in the well, septic problems, and the boundary meanders. So, we bid lower than the asking price to cover the costs of repairs. He tells us he's selling AS IS, won't do the inspections and surveys. Hello--these are required by law. I guess he figuired I was brain dead too--NOT--he still has the house and good luck selling it.
New Mexico, yes, good old New Mexico. Everyday on the TV news, in the newspapers, everywhere you look--multiple murders. Over what--drugs and alcohol--siblings against parents, against fellow siblings, against friends, neighbors, strangers, anyone with a nickel to their name. What the hell is our country coming to?
I heard this morning on the news that a group in Florida is demanding our government change our national anthem because Francis Scott Key was a slave owner. WAKE UP--the US Constitution was almost NOT ratified because half of our founding fathers were slave owners who did not want their slaves to have rights. Should we therefore do away with our Consitution? Why do you think we faught the Civil War?
Now the President wants to extend the Pariot Act indefinately. Why aren't Americans protesting that? Probably because most Americans think that it's necessary after 9/11. WAKE UP--they are using the Patriot Act to limit your freedoms until you have no freedoms left. Has it helped capture Bin Laden? The fact is that Afghanistan let Bin Laden stay there for money. He paid them big to let him receive kidney dialysis--his kidneys weren't functioning. If the guy they show on TV is Bin Laden it's an absolute miracle he looks so normal and healthy. Kidney failure doesn't make you look so good. It's my opinion that he's probably dead, and there are others who share this opinion. Also, it's a fact that he isn't even in charge of Al Qaeda anymore--Abu Mussab al-Zarqawi is.
Folks tell me--well they haven't tried to get to the US again--you're right they haven't. If they have a nuclear weapon they'd have used it on us by now--not necessarily. Why use a nuclear weapon when a biological weapon kills more people, faster. What about all the new diseases killing thousands everyday? Where did those germs come from???
How can Americans standby and let this stuff happen, just as long as they have a good job, money to live on, and a roof over their heads, they are oblivious of the crap that goes on around them.
In the last 3 years, while I've been away, the USA has gone to hell in a hand basket and I'm sorry to say, I WISH I WERE BACK IN EUROPE. |
